Parts of a Book

Title Page - page gives complete title, author, place of publication, and publisher name

Table of Contents (after the title page) - gives the titles of the individual chapters (nonfiction) or the tile of the individual work (if anthology) and the page numbers for these chapters

Chapter - a section of a book that is devoted to one idea or theme

Index - at the end of most nonfiction books (not all books will have an index) the index is very helpful to find the exact page number of what you are looking for (place, person, idea, etc.).

Some books may also have illustrations or photos, a glossary, a forward, appendices etc.  Remember that you do not have to read an entire book to use part of it in your research essay.
