Most of the time when your instructor says "use articles", they mean use magazines, newspapers, or journals to find your sources. These three types of sources are also called periodicals. An article can also mean an entry in an encyclopedia or reference book but your instructor will tell you if you can use one of these sources.
Periodicals will usually be scholarly or non-scholarly. Magazines and newspapers are considered non-scholarly, while journals are scholarly. Look at our handout on Journals vs. Magazines for the characteristics of both.
